The next consideration is the lighting in the loft. You want to have something that is fitted and easy to use and that often means an on-off switch and a proper electrical connection. You might also want to be able to turn the light on or off from the hallway below so you can see what you are doing before you enter the loft.
Boarding and insulation are the next step. These create a solid floor on which to walk and also ensure the loft is well insulated and condensation doesn’t become a problem. You may want to have studwork added to lift the level of the floor so that boxes and other stored items don’t rest on the insulation.
Finally, you may want to consider adding rooflights to let natural light and air into the room. This isn’t compulsory on a storage conversion but may make it a more pleasant space to use.
